Aethelred II Longcross Penny  () - £ 250.00
Aethelred II, Aethelred the Unraed

Ruled from 978 until 1016 - you can read more about him in the "Blog" section which can be found on the menu at the top of this page.

Superb Longcross issue penny of London mint. Struck by the moneyer Heawulf.

The obverse, portrait, side reads "+AEDELREDREXANGLO" from 7 O'clock onwards.

The reverse legend reads "+HEAPVLFMOLVND" from 12 O'clock onwards.

The portrait really is exemplary on this example, the coin also features a lovely drak patina and a full flan with no clipping. Interest in this already popular series is growing, especially since the latest Anglo-Saxon hoard of precious metal found in Staffordshire.

These ambassadors of our history are seen as brilliant investments and you can rest assured when buying from Historic Coinage that it is a genuine relic from the depths of England's long history.
