A very warm welcome to Historic Coinage Collection.

This part of Historic Coinage is for all numismatists to record and display their hammered coins. Your coins will only be visible by fellow members, ensuring some level of privacy whilst still being able to share your collection.

Hammered coins are tactile pieces of history and can reveal much about the society in which they were circulated.  Historic Coinage Collection is a place for you to upload your own hammered coins and you can add your own description to share your coin with other members. This community is designed to further the learning of hammered coins and to promote the hobby.

To register, you will need to "Create an account" using the link to the left.

All English hammered coins are welcome; Early Anglo-Saxon to Charles II but also hammered coins from other nations such as Scotland and France.

Hammered coins were struck from a blank piece of metal with a hammer, by hand, between two dies. A die contains an inverse version of the desired image for the coin and was often made out of iron. The blank piece of metal, otherwise known as a planchet or a flan, was placed onto the lower die with the top die being hammered down onto the bottom one, leaving the impression of both sides on the previously blank piece of metal. As all coins were struck by hand, each coin is unique in some respect.

I genuinely hope that you enjoy sharing your collection with others and make the most of this online feature brought to you by www.HistoricCoinage.com
